Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is essential to drive Europe towards a sustainable future, SCCS Director Professor Stuart Haszeldine will tell a high-level conference in Brussels today (25 February).

Prof Haszeldine's appearance at the Carbon Capture Journal 'Keeping CCS moving in Europe' conference coincides with the launch of the European Commission's proposals for an EU Energy Union.

CCS is essential to deliver the Energy Union objectives of creating an "integrated, secure, sustainable, accessible and affordable" energy system in Europe, as the SCCS partnership has pointed out.

Prof Haszeldine will present the recommendations made by delegates at the recent SCCS Conference, arguing that the Energy Union should facilitiate and ensure the provision of the CO2 transport and storage infrastructure critical to securing the benefits of CCS to decarbonisation and job retention within industry.
