EU seeks your view on CO₂ transport projects

Deadline to respond: 15 August

The EU has launched an open consultation on the four CO₂ transport infrastructure projects proposed for the latest list of Projects of Common Interest, the first to include cross-border CO₂ transport as well as electricity and natural gas infrastructure.

Fracture controls: a South African analogue

In September 2015, a group of UK researchers, sponsored by UKCCSRC, travelled to South Africa to investigate a natural CO₂ seep. The first paper based on fieldwork undertaken during the trip has recently been published in the International Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control.

Pioneering test will build confidence in CO₂ storage

A unique "fingerprint" test developed by SCCS scientists to check for leaks from CO₂ storage sites has been used for the first time in Canada. The technique, based on measuring tiny traces of noble gases, will allow CCS developers to provide reassurance that storage sites are secure.

CO₂GeoNet: driving CCS towards implementation

Around 100 European stakeholders and scientists met at the CO₂GeoNet Open Forum in Venice to discuss the status of CCS and the actions needed to implement the technology at industrial scale.

ETI report Taking Stock

Taking stock of the UK's offshore storage options

A new report from the Energy Technologies Institute shows the UK has enough geological CO₂ storage to support a CCS industry to at least 2050, and beyond. It concludes that “starting small and building fast” would ultimately lead to a network of shared infrastructure.
