The backbone of this £1.7 million centre is a purpose-built Flow Loop, simulating the conditions inside a pipeline, as well as a low temperature laboratory, which provides an upscale link between laboratory studies and field implementation. The flow loop comprises a 2.5cm diameter, 40m long loop driven by a Moineau pump system. The flow loop is housed in an environmental chamber allowing temperature research mimicking subsea and Siberian conditions.

The Centre has recently been expanded to allow Convection experiments in temperature gradients relative to CO injection as well as investigating CO stream impurity limits, particularly for water.

  • Housed in an environmental chamber, the loop can operate up to pressures of 200 bar (2,900 psia) from -15 to +20 °C.
