Circulating Fluidised Bed Rig: The rig consists of a pilot scale circulating fluidised bed with 30cm slow bed and 15cm riser. A riser with a larger diameter can alternatively be used to investigate scale up features. The equipment is used for measuring solid circulation rates and carrying out mixing tests and entrainment tests. In addition, the bed expansion can be observed and recorded.

Bubbling Bed Rig: This consists of a 150cm cast acrylic column of 15cm diameter. A twin-plane ECT sensor ring enables the capture of time-series images of the cross-sectional solid distribution during fluidisation. A number of tests can be carried out to investigate particle distribution, bubble shape and rise mechanism and the bed expansion.

Expertise includes applying mathematical and physical modelling (e.g., two-phase continuum models) to the hydrodynamics of particulate systems.
