CCS in action

As of 2022, there were *30 CCS projects around the world, capturing more than 40 million tonnes of CO2 every year, with another 11 under construction and 153 under development. The pioneers of CCS include Norway's Sleipner and Snøhvit CCS projects on natural gas production. Other projects capture CO2 from different sources, such as steel or fertiliser production. Across Europe, industries and governments are working with research agencies to develop and deliver cost-effective CCUS at the scale we will need to meet the climate challenge. Click on the links below to travel the world of CCUS – from operational and in-development projects to cutting-edge research and innovation.
