In this blog, Richard Lo Bianco (Digital Communications Officer) reflects on the process of launching a new image and brand identity of SCCS.
Images and symbols can be incredibly powerful, and they can be instantly recognised and associated with a brand. Since joining in 2020, I immediately noticed how the SCCS logo was widely recognised across international academic and industry partners, and synonymous with a centre of excellence. SCCS has evolved over the years, and the outlook and resilience to continue with the work we do remains strong. Reimagining the SCCS logo and brand was a long process, as we wanted to modernise whilst ensuring that the logo and image reflected our core values.
True to tradition, looking into the future.
In concept and development, the new logo draws inspiration from the image that has been a symbol for SCCS for years. The logo maintains the image of a globe with criss-crossing lines - a nod to a Scottish partnership with a global outlook. The colour palette, gradient, light & dark, curved line, and arrow are all additional elements that further represent our mission of enabling economy-wide decarbonisation and climate neutrality.
The SCCS website was rebuilt from the ground up, undergoing a site restructuring, whilst ensuring we kept all valuable information and resources available to visitors, such as exploring our Global CCS map, finding out about the researchers and academics that make up the partnership, learning about CCS and Net Zero, finding out about our active projects, staying up to date with news and events, and more.
